About Kathy Gale Thomas

I am an abstract artist living in the Les Cheneaux Islands, Cedarville, Michigan with my husband and three children. I work in a small art studio that is also my laundry/mud room. Among the chaos of kids and animals, magical things happen!

I desire to create thought-provoking artwork that inspires others to see beyond shapes and brush strokes. My work takes me back to a place and moment and I would love to share that with you.

I am a member of the Les Cheneaux Arts Council, the St. Ignace Area Creative Arts Council, and the Sault Area Art Center where I participate in community events that promote the Arts. My desire to encourage the artist in everyone has led me to teach various art classes during the summer months. I hope to expand this education to year around learning opportunities, including classes with online enrollment.

“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.” - van gogh

History

My love for art has always defined me but my painting journey all began with a beautiful art easel that was almost thrown away.

The day my husband came home with a vintage Devoe & Raynolds Co. easel, I was excited but intimidated. I have painted in the past but I was inexperienced and the whole process left me upset with the outcome.

After months of dreaming about what I could create, I finally setup the easel and began to paint. I decided I only wanted to get paint on the canvas to see what would happen and that’s how my abstract painting journey began.

Sharing my work for everyone to see and critic was another challenge but I was up for it and I’m excited to continue to display my work and sell to the most amazing people. Thank you for visiting and I hope you continue to follow me on my journey.
